About this experience
Berat has been on every list of the most beautiful cities in the Balkans for a reason. It's the kind of place where you arrive planning to spend two hours and leave wishing you'd booked a room. The old city climbs two opposing hillsides, Mangalem on one side, Gorica on the other, connected by a medieval stone bridge over the Osum River. Above Mangalem, the castle walls enclose an entire neighbourhood that has been continuously inhabited since the 4th century BC. The Onufri Museum inside the castle holds a collection of 16th-century Byzantine icons that shouldn't exist in a building this size. You'll spend the morning at the castle, Onufri Museum, and the old churches. Lunch is at a riverside restaurant below the old city, grilled fish, local wine, the sound of the Osum below. The afternoon is yours to wander. Berat takes a long day. It's worth every minute.

Morning pickup from your Tirana accommodation, typically 8am. Your driver comes to you
Scenic drive south to Berat, roughly 2 hours, with real context on the town before you arrive

Walk through the Mangalem and Gorica quarters, the Ottoman houses stacked up both hillsides that put Berat on every postcard
Lunch at a local restaurant chosen by your guide, not the tourist strip on the main square
Return drive to Tirana, back by early evening
